Part 1: Understanding value chain starting from raw materials

Which stages are involved - directly or indirectly - in fulfilling a customer’s request? This module delves into the complex web of processes involved in the production, distribution, consumption, and disposal of fashion products, shedding light on the hidden consequences that often go unnoticed. Learn how to design a proper sustainability roadmap from a value chain (VC) perspective in order to address the steps involved in implementing sustainability practices.

The race is on to revolutionize fashion’s intricate supply chain. Are alternative materials versus animal-derived ones a feasible solution? What material alternatives have the potential to make the most impact? How is science developing fashion materials that have the potential to be biodegradable? How are natural materials already being integrated into fashion as we know it? Discover what raw material suppliers are doing to revolutionize their offerings and find out what collaborations between science and fashion are charting a new course for the industry.

Part 2: Exploring fashion's social responsibility and cultural influence

Most of our clothes are made in countries in which workers’ rights are limited or non-existent. In fact, production sites are regularly shifting locations and/or are on the lookout for ever cheaper labor costs. How are companies struggling – or succeeding - to manage the bottom line versus implementing more sustainable and ethical practices? Why are social impact brands crucial to fashion’s sustainability goals?

Diversity and inclusion in fashion refer to the efforts made to represent individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and identities in the fashion industry, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, size, and ability. Since what we wear and how we wear it is a reflection of who we are, it is important that more and more brands and those at the top of the fashion industry actively promote these inclusive practices.

In this module, we will explore how the linear "take-make-dispose" model is being replaced by a circular approach that aims to minimize waste, maximize resource efficiency, and create a regenerative system. You will discover the principles and strategies behind the circular economy, such as designing for durability, implementing reuse and recycling systems, and fostering collaboration across the fashion value chain.

The participants will be divided into teams and actively participate in a thought-provoking debate centered around a controversial topic related to sustainability in the fashion industry. With assigned roles of defense, prosecution, and a discerning jury, the teams will passionately present their arguments. At the conclusion of the debate, the jury will deliberate and determine the victorious team based on the strength of their arguments and presentation.

Part 3: Innovation and transparency for a sustainable fashion future

On-Site Experience

Three days in Milan exploring how sustainability is being implemented within the fashion industry, through visits, discussions, and direct dialogue with companies working on materials innovation, supply chain transparency, and circular design.

Day 1

The first day begins with a welcome gathering in a dedicated location, where participants will have the chance to meet and present themselves. The experience officially kicks off with an exclusive lecture and workshop hosted by C.L.A.S.S., providing an introduction to key topics that will be explored throughout the experience. After a networking lunch, the afternoon features a dynamic debate and Q&A session with a special guest, fostering insightful discussions on key industry challenges.

Day 2

On the second day, the On-Site Experience delves into the world of materials. We travel to Bergamo to visit Albini Next, where participants will explore groundbreaking advancements in textile innovation, including new materials for the fabrics of the future, pioneering dyeing techniques, and eco-friendly chemical formulations that significantly reduce environmental impact. After a shared lunch, the journey continues with a visit to Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale, where participants will discover their expertise and passion for creating products of the highest quality and beauty

Day 3

On the third day, the On-Site Experience continues with visits to pioneering companies driving innovation in sustainable fashion. The morning will be dedicated to exploring Iluna Group and Pure Denim, where participants will discover cutting-edge advancements in lace and denim production. After a lunch break, we will visit UNIC - Concerie Italiane and their beautiful Ateliere, to gain deeper insights into the role of leather in the industry and the processes behind its production.
